Our Story
Knowing Christ and
Making Him Known
Swahili Chapel Chicago was birthed out of a deep desire to see the Gospel shared and lived out among East African immigrants and the broader community in the city of Chicago. Many who came from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, and other Swahili-speaking regions found themselves far from home, navigating new cultures, languages, and opportunities while longing for a spiritual family that felt familiar.
In those early gatherings, believers met in living rooms and small community spaces, praying and worshiping together in both Swahili and English. The fellowship quickly grew into more than just a meeting—it became a place of belonging. What started as a handful of friends has grown into a vibrant chapel, united by a shared vision to lift high the name of Jesus Christ.
Our story is one of God’s faithfulness. We have seen Him bring people together across nations and backgrounds to form a community where the Gospel is proclaimed clearly, discipleship is intentional, and worship reflects both African heritage and global unity. Swahili Chapel is not only a place for worship but also a place where families are strengthened, students are encouraged, and individuals find guidance and hope through the Word of God.
Today, we continue with the same heartbeat: to see Christ glorified in Chicago and beyond. We seek to be a bridge between cultures, equipping believers to live missionally wherever God has placed them. Whether through prayer, Bible teaching, outreach, or fellowship, Swahili Chapel exists so that all may encounter the transforming love of Jesus.
Our story is still being written, and we invite you to be part of it. Together, we celebrate God’s goodness and join His mission to reach the nations, starting right here in Chicago.
